BCRL Develops Additional Capabilities in Meeting its Mission
Dennis Guster, Director

Over the past year the BCRL has incorporate several changes that will allow it to better meet its primary missions. These missions are centered on the concept of distributed processing, in other words using multiple computers to solve multi-faceted or complex problems. Within distributed processing the current missions include: information assurance, simulation related to molecular modeling, nano fluid dynamics and high performance computing.
Within information assurance there are several projects of note, through the support on ING a cyber warfare instructional station has devised which is used for monitoring the BCRL domain. A server configuration lab has been created in ch14A and is used frequently for computer forensics and security classes that require host configuration exercises. Several research projects have been undertaken and published in areas of firewalling disaster recovery and global authentication.
Within the simulation mission, several research projects have been completed and published related to hydrogen fuel storage, anti-matter application related to fuel and medical applications and a non-newtonian methodology has been developed to improve the accuracy of human blood flow simulations.
In the area of high performance computing a new 96 processor cluster has been configured and is now available to support algorithm scaling research, two CUDA ½ teraflop processors are now on line and being used to solve computationally intense problems, a molecular modeling algorithm has been devised /test which scales to 12 processors and a password integrity checking algorithm has been devised/test that provides and elapsed time reduction of 30 times.
